Vancouver had had rain for 2 months and at last recently it has been sunny. The day we departed for ski holiday was also a nice colour morning.

We hadn't taken a lift for ages and bit worried if we could get off without any problems.
We could get off the lift without problems. When my father saw this photo he said it looked like Zao in Japan. My mother agreed as well. I googled Zao and my photo really looked like Zao. I also learnt later that it was rime ice, which only grows on Maries firs in Japan or Pacific Silver Firs in North America.

Omiyage means gifts or souvenirs in Japanese. My mother went to Taiwan and Japan and came back with gifts as much as she could carry. My aunt family always gives us loads of gifts. We received so many wonderful gifts again this time. I was very chuffed (not with backshot, Mrs. K) with a magazine called "Suteki Resipi ("nice recipes") written by Harumi Kurihara. This edition's special is "my ordinal recipes which are enjoyed in the world". Since she published her recipe book in English, she is famous in the world. My British sister-in-law loves the book.

SPCA (The Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals・動物愛護協会)に引き取られたが、彼らは生肉を与えられていたため、普通のドッグフードは食べないことが判明。
I said good morning to Trixie and Toby, and their owner every time I met them during jogging. I wrote about them before in this article. I didn’t see them recently. I read an article on the shop window of the dog food deli near my house. It was a great shock to me to read the dogs’ owner passed away at English Bay during a walk on New Year’s eve. I extend my sympathy for the loss. Trixie and Toby were sent to SPCA and SPCA found out these dogs were fed only raw meat and they didn’t eat normal dog food. Raw meat diet costs about $3000 a month for the two, so neighbors who were worried about the dogs made a fund for them. Later, I found that a friend of the owner in Chilliwack is now looking after the dogs. I will miss them.

The Conservative party won the federal election in Canada yesterday, ending 13 years of Liberal Party rule. The 47 year old leader of the Conservative party, (geeky hair style) Stephen Harper↑, will be the next prime minister, however, since the party is short of a majority of the parliament it becomes a small minority goverment. It looks like Canadian politics is about to get more interesting in 2006.

Vancouver had 27 consecutive days of rain. This couldn't break the longest record of 28 days in 1953. I bet people at a meteorological observatory were disappointed. On sunny Sunday we went for a walk around Lost Lagoon in Stanley park. These trees were bent down. We found beaver tooth mark at the bottom of the trees. Did beavers give up taking these trees? or are they coming back? I love to see beavers since I have never seen them before.
It started to rain again the next day (ToT).]]>Dine Out Vancouverhttp://chilco.exblog.jp/4020920/2006-01-12T09:53:00+09:002006-01-14T16:01:56+09:002006-01-12T09:53:00+09:00chilcoRestaurants
An event called “Dine Out Vancouver” is going to be held from Friday, January 20th to Thursday, February 2nd. You can enjoy a three-course dinner at 144 of Vancouver's restaurants for $15, $25, or $35 per person. Popular restaurants were booked up already, but luckily I was able to book the Parkside restaurant. Their menu is listed as below and you pick one dish from appetizer, main, and dessert menu. This course, $25 per person is quite reasonable. I am looking forward to it.

We watched this film since our friend recommended it. This film was released in 2004 and co-produced by Canada and Britain. Alim, a Canadian born Pakistani is a gay and lives with an ideal English boyfriend in London. The film starts from when Alim's muslim mother comes to visit him. In this film, Kyle MacLachlan acts as the Spirit of Cary Grant. His impression of Cari Grant is incredibly good. You will be surprised. I am practicing Cary Grant impression as well, but it's surprisingly bad. My husband is pretty good.
When I was looking for this DVD in a rental shop, I couldn't find it. So I asked a shop keeper, "Where's Touch of Pink?". Then the shop keeper said, "It's in the Gay and Lesbian section!" as if saying it to everybody in the shop. There were quite a few customers. I wish I could have said to everybody, "It's not porno(T0T)"
